PRECIOUS GEMS, SILVER AND GOLD are three materials that Sebastian Schildt handles like a modern master. On a daily basis he works as both a silversmith and a jeweller, a very unique combination
Sebastian Schildt was born in 1964 in Stockholm, Sweden. As a student of the Waldorf School in Stockholm his interest for design, form and Handicraft was encouraged from the early childhood and he was able to express this creativity throughout his education.
At 20 he went on to the apprentice of a well-known and skilful Swedish silversmith. Three years later Sebastian opened his own atelier permitting him to launch his own designs and productions.
Since 1987 he specialises in high end custom made jewellery and silver hollow ware. Sebastian has, throughout the years, had the pleasure and joy of staging exhibitions both nationally and around the world. Today he is renowned as one of Sweden's most skilful jewellery and silversmiths.
AN ARTIST WAY OF LIVING Challenging the limits of silver in one exhibition both in the shape of beautiful jugs and dynamic bowls to move in the next with tempting our eyes with sparkling jewels to adorn women - this has become the signum of Sebastian Schildt. For himself a way of living.
JEWELLRY Precious stones enthral us. Our eyes are drawn to the sparkling creations on someone's hands or neck. Diamonds, aquamarines, topazes, and tourmalines sparkle in all the colours of the rainbow.
Sebastian's jewellery is designed to bring joy and fascination and create desire. He has studies these stones for hours to see exactly how they capture the light to decide which setting shows them at their most captivating. And he often chose to construct the geometric forms that hold the jewels to contrast with the curves of the human body.
A unique piece of jewellery is not something you simply put on. It is a creation that accentuates your beauty and personality.
Women are beautiful, jewels are magical and the combination is irresistible.
Jewels must be worn. In the darkness of a closed jewellery box they are nothing. Jewels need light and warmth to work their magic.
SILVER In contrast to the jewels bowls and jugs represent the very basic shapes of our tableware. This is perhaps why, as a counter balance to the intense language of the jewels Sebastian is attracted to its clean lines.
Translating these shapes to a precious metal carrying only the voice of the shape and material. Both the jugs and the bowls are made out of one single piece. With the hand and the strength of the hammer the shape is developed out of the silver plate. Precision is key, the ability to see the opportunity of the material and characteristics by listening, feeling and looking. To make a jug takes both time and patience; it can take between 80-100 hours. Sebastian manages approximately 100 hammerings per minute that means 6000 hammerings in an hour. The number becomes fascinating when you count how many just one single jug carries with it. The jugs are at their most beautiful when they become a part of our everyday life. Beauty lies, just as with the jewels in their use. Think of serving your friends wine from a silver jug- A jug is like life itself, open, generous and always inviting.
