Jb grew up on the west coast of Sweden where she lived with her family on the traditional schooner m/s Westkust. She bought her first boat when she was 15 years old -a beloved yellow folkboat. After graduation she sailed as crew on a 50 feet yacht from Sweden to the Caribbean and back. She continued to do boat deliveries occasionally while studying architecture at Chalmers in Göteborg.
The jb bags are the result of a young Swedish architect’s fascination for high-tech sail cloths and their possibilities of application in architecture and fashion. The materials are light and strong, water resistant and translucent, characteristics that are most interesting in design.
Jenny has a very unique connection with St Barthélemy. She first sat foot on the island in 1994 when she as a teenager sailed from Sweden to Caribbean on a 50 feet Swedish sailing yacht. The island was flourishing at the time and she was instantly fascinated by its beauty. Being welcomed by signs written in Swedish and by the friendly people did not make it harder to feel at home.
She went with her future to be husband and soon the island started to become part of their life and she returned several times during her studies to become an architect. Her diploma from 2002 is a project on the former town hall in Gustavia and how it can become a cultural centre with focus on the contacts between Sweden and Saint Barthélemy.
This project led to a job offer from the well known local architect Francois Pecard. Working with him gave her important knowledge and contacts on the island and she got the opportunity to do a project as a freelancer for the commune.
This project was finished in 2004 and is an architectural and historic walk with signs on buildings and sites which summons up her experience, knowledge and interests in the island in general and Gustavia in particular. Every sign tells the story of a house or a place as well as puts it into a wider perspective in culture, climate, history or architecture. The project will be presented in a book as well.
Today she lives in Göteborg in Sweden but takes every chance to revisit the island with her family. We are proud to present to you her new line for 2007 . This time she has used a grey sail cloth optimised for strength and durabililty in sail making. The potential is the combination of the material, its transparency and radiance with the design of the bags and the accessories. This is a collection made in a grey sail cloth, normally used in light weight racing sails. (mylar) The collection contains 14 models from the smart Party pocket to the roomy Duffel bag. Most of them are unisex but some of them are designed for mothers, fathers and children. The Graphite collection and jb design was selected to participate in "rookies and players" at Stockholm fashion fair 15-18 february 2007. Click here to view products of Jenny Stening
