Efva Attling was born in Stockholm. She made her first piece of jewellery when she was eleven years old. At the age of sixteen she was a pupil of one of Sweden’s greatest silversmiths, Bengt Liljedahl. Eileen Ford spotted Efva at the age of seventeen and a 12 year modelling career began. Having music in her family and in her heart Efva started a band in 1981 called the X Models. The band had a hit ballad ”Two of us”, in the 80’s which Efva composed. Through the years she´s designed clothes for Levi’s and H&M.
Since 1996 Efva is back where she once started; working with silver, gold and precious stones. After the Tsunami catastrophe Efva made ‘Angels’, a silver pendant, in order to help the surviving victims in co-operation with the Red Cross. Today she also designs eyewear for Scandinavian Eyewear and crystal glass for Orrefors. Efva often puts expressions on her design, she calls it ……..“beauty with a thought”.
BEAUTY WITH A THOUGHT AMOR FATI – ‘The love for our destiny’. I found this expression in a book by Rollo May and it struck me that this is how I feel about the life we have been given. Let’s make the best of it, it’s all up to you.
AMOR VINCIT OMNIA – ‘Love conquers all’. This is so true. Believe me, I know.
CARPE DIEM – ‘Seize the day’, this is so important in these uncertain times, you never know what tomorrow will bring. Why put things off until tomorrow when you can live and enjoy today.
FROM HERE TO ETERNITY - What could be more romantic than having the picture in the back of your mind of Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr kissing on the beach? Sunny, salty and sexy… The film was ‘From here to eternity’.
HOPE - …needs no explanation.
HOMO SAPIENS – ‘The knowing man’ in Latin. I divided the word and put each half on both sides of the dog tag. What I wanted to say is that all human beings are equal.
HUMAN - I strive to be a good human being. To respect and to be respected.
PENCEZ DE MOY – ‘Think of me’. I found this expression at the National Museum of Art in Stockholm, inscribed on a 13th century French ring. A lovely gift…and why not think of yourself for once.
TIME WILL COME - In the western world we say that ‘time is passing’. It feels like we are losing something and it is stressful. In the eastern world, the expression ‘time will come’ reveals a more relaxed, laid back and peaceful way to consider time. So important in the fast-paced world in which we live in.
