How we choose the designers |
|
Building and strengthening the unique heritage between that of Saint Barthélemy and Sweden, we have established key relationships with some designers that also share the passion for keeping this alive; several have both visited and worked on the island whilst some have a remote relationship from Piteå where they live and work.
Many of the designers we have the honour of representing have up until now not been readily available in a Swedish design centre but more through one-off exhibitions, through Scandinavia collections or directly through their own customer shops. They all share to same high standards and a reputation of being modern, classical and innovative all at the same time.
Swedish design culture has been flourishing for over one hundred years. As early as the late 1800s, Swedes were making a name for themselves in the design business, with an emphasis on simplicity, form and light colours..
Since the 1940's, Swedes have established a tradition of production in textiles, glass, ceramics, furniture and flatware that seamlessly merge craft and industry. The emphasis on economy, in both aesthetics and cost, were a natural extension of the country's post-war social ideals. Swedish functionality and austerity proved to be lasting principles of twentieth century design. The products are usually multi functional, not only beautiful but useful and full of imagination both today and in years to come, this is why they are such sought after so called Swedish classics. Swedish design is truly cutting edge.
