Sjöö Sandström
The art of manufacturing clocks and watches has a long and proud standing in Sweden.
In the middle of the19th century Swedish watchmaker Viktor Kullberg gained worldwide reputation for his pocket watches and naval chronometers. He was awarded both first and third prizes in the London International Chronometer Competition in 1873.

In keeping with the Swedish watch making tradition, Christer Sjöö and Mikael Sandström, two engineers with a genuine in¬terest in watches, formed Sjöö Sandström Sweden AB in 1986. With a pioneering design they started to manufacture exclu¬sive wrist watches produced from Swedish high quality steel. They were inspired by a visit to the Swedish Halda factory and its concealed watchmaker´s workshop, where watches had been made between 1918 and 1926.

1993 Sjöö Sandström introduced their first wristwatch – the Sjöö Sandström Automatic. This automatic timepiece, won the “Excellent Swedish Design” award in 1995. Two years later the “Chronolink Worldtimer UTC” was launched, which was the first wristwatch that offered an innovative combination both of analogue elegance and electronic brilliance. Today Sjöö Sandström offers twelve different watch models.
The Chronolink was named as one of the best watches in it’s category by the German watch magazine Armband Uhren . The Chronolink was also added to the collection of the world´s most prestigious watches at the Musée International d’Horlogerie in Switzerland.

Swedish watch making is highly esteemed and distinguished by trade skill in every detail. In this tradition Sjöö Sandström initiated cooperation with the Swedish defence manufacturer Bofors when developing the Chronolink model. The digital movement in this watch is developed and tested to military standards and is able to withstand temperature differences from –20 C degrees up to +70 C degrees, 5000G and accele¬ration from 0-300 km/h in 0.2 seconds.

Sjöö Sandström has also started a successful collaboration with esteemed Swedish designers such as Thomas Sandell and Björn Dahlström. In 2006 Sandell, one of Sweden’s most renowned architects, was part of the design team behind a special edition of the Royal Steel Chronograph. Many were interested, but with a limited edition of 100, few were able to get hold of one. Consequently these prestigious collaborations will continue in the future.

Today, being one of the very few independent watch manu¬factures in the world, Sjöö Sandström proudly remain one of the world’s most exclusive watchmakers. All the timepieces are hand assembled, one by one, and produced in small series at the workshop in the heart of Stockholm – The Old Town. Every timepiece is exhaustively tested prior to release. If it doesn’t make the grade, it doesn’t leave the workshop.

Apart from Sweden, you can find Sjöö Sandström’s watches in selected stores in Denmark, Norway, the UK, France, Spain, South Korea, the USA , Oman and Brazil.
